Open Letter to the Governor of Ogun State, H.E. Prince Dapo Abiodun MFR.

22nd April, 2024

His Excellency,
Governor Dapo Abiodun
Governor’s Office
Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta
Ogun State, Nigeria

Dear Governor Abiodun,

I am writing this open letter as a concerned citizen of Ogun State and a frequent user of the Ilaro-Owode Road to express my sincere appreciation for the ongoing efforts in reconstructing the 32-kilometer Ilaro-Owode road, which you promised would be completed and commissioned in May 2022. It is commendable that your administration has taken on this significant infrastructural project to alleviate the plight of commuters and improve socio-economic development in the area.

However, I must convey the growing concerns and disappointment shared by myself and fellow commuters due to the apparent delay in completing the project as promised. The road remains uncompleted and in dire need of attention, which is causing inconvenience, frustration, and suffering for the people who rely on it daily.

We understand that unforeseen circumstances can arise in large-scale projects such as this, but we are now approaching a critical point with the impending rainy season. We are fearful that further delays will exacerbate the situation and leave us with a nearly impassable route, as the road’s current state is deteriorating rapidly, with numerous failed portions posing a severe hazard to motorists.

It has been heart-wrenching to see the hopes of the residents of Ilaro, Owode, and neighboring communities dashed as we continue to face the difficulties of navigating this crucial road. As you are well aware, this route connects many towns and villages, serving as a vital link to schools, hospitals, markets, and places of work. The prolonged delay in completing the road has caused immense hardship to commuters, businesses, and the overall well-being of the communities relying on it.

We respectfully urge you, Your Excellency, to hasten the efforts and mobilize the necessary resources to fulfill your promise and complete the Ilaro-Owode Road project without further delay. This is crucial not only to address the current plight of the people but also to restore the faith and trust that the citizens have placed in your administration, thereby throwing their weight and support behind you during the last general elections.

Moreover, we implore you to pay immediate attention to the urgent repairs needed to address the failed portions of the road and ensure the safety of all who traverse it. Every day that passes without the necessary action places lives at risk, and we must remain steadfast in our commitment to the welfare and well-being of the residents of Ogun State.

We have the utmost confidence in your ability to deliver on your promise, and we hope that our voices will be heard as we collectively call for urgent action to improve our infrastructure and elevate the quality of life in our communities. Your intervention will undoubtedly lead to a better and brighter future for all of us.

Thank you for your time and attention to this pressing matter, and we look forward to the day when the Ilaro-Owode Road stands as a symbol of your administration’s commitment to progress and development in Ogun State.

Sincerely,

Jerry Kusoro (Horlatof)
On behalf of concerned citizens and commuters of Ilaro-Owode Road
